Day 77

Going to the Desert
Well, Day 77 through Day 82 are all being posted today due to the fact that we were away without internet.  But, I did take a photo and more, each day.  This photo is from when we finally arrived in Scottsdale, AZ.

But, let's rewind for a moment...I started off the day in a great way...playing pranks on my fifth graders for April Fool's Day!  First, we rearranged all their desks and even hid two in other rooms.  I then left to catch a flight but my student teacher gave the kids a "Fool of a Test".  The test had very long, drawn out directions (which I knew most wouldn't read).  See below:

Directions:
These are some of the questions from the eighth-grade final exam from 1895.  It was taken from the original document on file in Kansas.  Are you smarter than an eighth grader from 1895?

Well, it may be fun to try but you do not have to take this test.  This is just one more way that your teachers are playing a joke on you today.  So, if you read these directions you will know the joke.  But the funny part is, many of your classmates did not read the directions.  You must not laugh because we want the rest of the class to think this is a real test.

You need to write something you really like for each answer for each question.  For example, you could write your favorite sport or ice cream for numbers one and two.  All questions need to have some favorite thing of yours as an answer.  When you are finished, turn this into the Mrs. Walker bin.

Grammar:
1. Give nine rules for the use of Capital Letters.
2. Define Verse, Stanza and Paragraph.

Arithmetic:
1. Find cost of 6720 lbs. coal at $6.00 per ton.
2. What is the cost of a square farm at $15 per are, the distance around which is 640 rods?

U.S. History:
1. Relate the causes and results of the Revolutionary War.
2. Who were the following: Morse, Whitney, Fulton, Bell, Lincoln, Penn, and Howe?
3. Name events connected with the following dates:
1607
1620
1800
1849
1865

Geography:
1. Describe the following:
Monrovia
Odessa
Manitoba
Hecla
Yukon
St. Helena

2. Name and locate the principal trade centers of the U.S.
